Jesus’ Representative

If you have been following this blog for the past two weeks – by now you know who Alvin Anderson is.  He is the Director of Manos Extendidas Honduras (Extended Hands).  I am providing this short little video clip so you can see the way kids react to him and how he loves kids.  Everywhere we went, this scene was repeated over and over again.  Kids spotting Alvin, then flocking to him, and getting hugs, kisses, and loving touches.  I personally think that he is one of the best Jesus representatives I have witnesses in my life.  He plays the father-figure to many and he loves everyone he meets unconditionally.  Often he will pull kids to the side and have a one-to-one personal talk with them so he can really listen to them and that they know they have his undivided attention.  The kids we met in Honduras crave this and they find it ever-present in Alvin.  Watch and learn!

The children here at ‘Casitas Kennedy’ and even the gang prisoners at other IHNFA institutions/jails consider Alvin from New York to be daddy or ‘Papi’ Alvin. Even one of the most notorious former female Honduran gang leaders whose heart now serves God and her country, calls Alvin Papi. It is an honor for me to serve under Alvin.

Alvin is an invaluable volunteer adviser to the current IHNFA director. With all of his years of service at IHNFA, his perspective and council is ‘gold’, especially in crisis situations.

The acting political president’s wife is typically in charge of IHNFA. The last time I visited ‘Casitas Kennedy’/’Tiny Tots’, was when a former ‘CEO’ of IHNFA was visiting the facility. She was the First Lady of Honduras. Her name is ‘Aguas Ocaña.’ There was a photo taken that day at Casitas Kennedey of Aquas and Alvin that is hanging on his humble office wall located on ‘avenida de muerte’/’street of death’ in Tegucigalpa inner city, a street where two major gangs border and clash over territory….though Alvin’s ‘office’ is really his 3 cell phones and motorcycle.

Alvin’s influence has kept many guns from the hands of hurting souls who otherwise turn to thievery, kidnapping and murder, pulling the trigger tearing apart precious Honduran families….but there is so much more to be done in Honduras to keep innocent men and women, sons and daughters from untimely death.

Vicki, my wife introduced Dave to a former president at the airport, Ricardo Maduro. Coincidentally, they were on the same flight together. Ricardo and Aquas were married after he took office.

In the future I pray that Ricardo will offer deeper friendship to Alvin (featured in ‘CROMOS’ enero 2004. Especial como se llama ‘Voluntarios Sin Fronteras’) & use his influence and support to further champion efforts that guide the future generation of Honduras on wholesome paths where they grow to be a vital part of society’s upward spiral, “making poverty history, building Abbey’s of Prayer and Work, proclaiming Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, meeting the Millennium Development Goals, providing circles of quiet within the clamor of evil”… Page 303 Clairvaux Manifesto. http://www.clairvauxmanifesto.com
